An Impactful Life Cut Short Celebrated, Highlighted
Dr. Elizabeth Mekonnen's life was celebrated in an emotional and warm farewell at Jupiter hotel in Kazanches.
The medical doctor and active citizen who died suddenly and unexpectedly this week was described as a loving and compassionate professional who used her career, resource, hard earned connection and time to help the less fortunate she met traveling in different part of her beloved Ethiopia.’
The 29 years old, who was stationed in the Oromia region at a public hospital, was a Lideta Catholic Cathedral School alumni. ''Take a moment to celebrate her life, but make a lasting meaning, a legacy out of it, also use it as a learning point for your own life'', Dr. Mehret Debebe told the gathering of approximately 80 people.
To her friends, Dr. Elizabeth was an exemplary citizen who was a source of inspiration.
"She was dear to our heart; losing her left us void, and we are all devastated," a medical school friend, Dr. Wubrest Tesfaye, said.
A lone daughter, her friends are planning to continue her work of sponsoring four kids in the Adola city she served and are in discussions to start an initiative focusing on mental health in health care professionals. A cause of death has yet to be determined as of press time.
